Frequently Asked Questions

  • How hard is it to get your insurance license in Texas?

It will take some commitment but it’s not impossible or really that hard to achieve. The biggest hurdle is the state exam but it’s a standardized test like any other so if you completed highschool (and even better - college/university) this will be familiar to you.

  • Does Texas require a pre-licensing course for insurance?

For a full license (not a temporary 90-day license) the Texas Department of Insurance does not require a pre-licensing course prior to taking the state exam. However, I highly recommend you take a license prep course prior to attempting the exam to learn the legal framework for insurance, the various insurance products you’ll be tested on, etc. as these are not common knowledge. The pass rate for people who don’t take a course and have no prior industry experience is practically zero.

  • How long is the Texas insurance licensing course?

With our online training, we recommend 4-6 weeks of consistent study or the equivalent of 100-120 hours of total study time. I recommend being consistent with your studies and setting yourself a schedule with realistic timelines that work for you and your lifestyle (ie. if you’re working, have family responsibilities, etc.).

  • Is the Texas P&C test hard?

The Texas Property and Casualty state exam is challenging but doable for everyone. It’s a typical standardized test so if you completed highschool or even higher education, this should be familiar to you already.

  • What is the best way to study for the Property and Casualty exam?

I recommend choosing an exam prep course that teaches the concepts in plain language (especially if you don’t have prior industry experience) and has good support from instructors (you can spend hours trying to figure something out yourself when a quick 5 minute conversation would do) for your insurance study.
